We Care About Your Cancer Journey
No matter where you are at on your journey...
acupuncture can help!
what we can help with...
Acupuncture is increasingly used as a complementary therapy in cancer care, helping to manage side effects from treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Acupuncture offers supportive benefits that can improve a patient’s quality of life during treatment. We have partnered with HOPE LIVES! (a non-profit organization) to make our services FREE when they use their Hope Lives! vouchers for women undergoing breast cancer therapy.
Here's how acupuncture supports cancer care:

-
Alleviates Chemo-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: One of the most well-established benefits of acupuncture in cancer care is its ability to reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). This is often one of the most distressing side effects of chemotherapy. Acupuncture, particularly when combined with acupressure on specific points like Pericardium 6 (P6) on the wrist, has been shown to significantly reduce the frequency and severity of nausea.

-
Reduces Pain: Acupuncture is effective in reducing cancer-related pain, including pain caused by surgery, tumors, and nerve damage from chemotherapy (peripheral neuropathy). It works by stimulating the release of endorphins and regulating pain signals within the nervous system, offering pain relief without the side effects of medications. This can be especially beneficial for managing post-operative pain or chronic cancer pain.

-
Eases Fatigue: Cancer-related fatigue is a common symptom that can persist even after treatment. Studies suggest acupuncture helps to boost energy levels by improving circulation and balancing the body's natural energy (Qi). Patients often report feeling more revitalized and less fatigued after acupuncture sessions, which can enhance their overall well-being and ability to engage in daily activities.

-
Manages Anxiety and Depression: Cancer treatments and the emotional toll of a diagnosis often lead to heightened anxiety, depression, and stress. Acupuncture helps regulate the body's stress response by promoting the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which contribute to feelings of relaxation and well-being. Regular acupuncture treatments can help alleviate psychological distress, improving mood and emotional resilience during cancer care.

-
Improves Sleep: Cancer patients frequently suffer from sleep disturbances due to pain, anxiety, and the side effects of treatments. Acupuncture has been shown to improve sleep quality by calming the nervous system and helping to regulate circadian rhythms. The relaxation effects of acupuncture may also reduce insomnia and increase restful sleep, which is crucial for recovery.

-
Reduces Hot Flashes: For patients undergoing hormone therapy, such as those with breast or prostate cancer, hot flashes can be a common and uncomfortable side effect. Research indicates that acupuncture may help regulate body temperature and reduce the intensity and frequency of hot flashes, offering a non-hormonal option for relief.

Improves Quality of Life: Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health, addressing not only physical symptoms but also emotional and mental well-being. This comprehensive approach may contribute to an improved overall quality of life for cancer patients.

Clinical Evidence
A systematic review published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians in 2020 found that acupuncture was effective for managing cancer-related symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and psychological distress. Additionally, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) endorse acupuncture as a supportive therapy for managing side effects related to cancer treatment.
