Dark Spots Got You Down?
As summer winds down, and we welcome those cool autumn mornings, I start to notice my dark spots popping up more.
What the heck?
I do my skin care routine, I use my sunscreen, I wear hats, I drink lots of water…so what gives?
The truth of the matter is, the darkening of the skin, melasma, starts deep within and is tied to much more than just sun exposure.
The sun just brings it out.

Melasma goes far beyond the sun.
Take a look at the top contributors:
Hormonal fluctuations can trigger melanocyte sensitivity, making certain areas of the skin more reactive to UV. This is why melasma, for example, often appears or worsens during pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, or times of hormonal shift.
Chronic low-grade inflammation, whether from internal imbalance, diet, stress, or previous skin trauma, creates an environment where pigment cells are more easily activated.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) occurs as a response to earlier skin events like acne, injury, or even aggressive treatments. The hyperpigmentation itself is the skin's healing response, not the original problem.
Stress and nervous system dysregulation can influence cortisol levels and inflammatory pathways, both of which play a role in how the skin produces and distributes melanin.
This is why an integrative approach to skincare is key. The treatments go far beyond just the surface, and actually work to address all of the common causes.
Even microneedling sessions are a systemic treatment! I address the underlying causes that are affecting you specifically at that moment in time. No two treatments are the same as I adjust to the individual presented the day of treatment.
I see beyond your face, using Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostic tools, including face reading, to give you the best care possible. All treatments include body needles, essentially an acupuncture treatment along with your face treatment.
This is how long-lasting and progressive results are achieved!
Oh wait!
I bet you are wondering a bit more about “face reading”, hoping I might touch on it before I wrap this up? Alright, let's dive in a bit... I love this stuff!

Each area of our face represents different organs and systems in the body, and these in turn carry different emotions associated with them. Our life experiences literally show up on our face!
This goes beyond simple smile lines. Our faces can reveal deep and sometimes unknown emotions. Disappointment, loss of loved ones, resentment, fear, the inability to let go, and much more.
I use the information your face shows me, to tailor your treatment to address your specific imbalances, and as the body returns to balance, the face responds and shows that. And it’s not just lines, it's skin texture, pore size, darkness, puffy or inflamed areas, dryness, oiliness, dullness, the list goes on and on.
When the body as a whole is treated, the return to balance shows up in your mood, sleep, digestion, emotions, and your face.
So are you ready to put your best face forward this fall?
I can’t wait to help you achieve the balance and results you are looking for.
